What is Xeomin?

Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a cosmetic injectable that treats or reduces the visibility of moderate to severe frown lines, also known as glabellar lines, between the eyebrows. Xeomin belongs to a category of cosmetic injectables called neuromodulators with the active ingredient botulinum toxin type A. This is a neurotoxin protein derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, and, when injected carefully, it can temporarily paralyze specific muscles.

The frown lines appear because of the overuse of the glabellar muscles, i.e., the muscles you use while frowning or knitting your eyebrows. The overuse of these muscles strengthens the frown lines, making them stay on your face at all times. Xeomin injections temporarily paralyze the muscles responsible for the frown lines, making them gradually fade away. The results last for 3 to 4 months.

The Xeomin Procedure

Your Xeomin treatment starts with a personal consultation with our nurse practitioners. They examine your facial tissues, discuss your goals, and review your health history to curate the ideal Xeomin treatment plan. After identifying the ideal treatment areas, they cleanse your skin, apply a numbing gel, and deliver the Xeomin injections on the forehead. The number of injections depends on your specific goals. The entire treatment concludes within 15 minutes.

Benefits

  • Non-surgically reduces moderate to severe frown lines.
  • Can delay the appearance of frown lines, extending your youthfulness.
  • Painless and comfortable procedure with minimal side effects.
  • Concludes within 15 minutes with no downtime.
  • “Naked” neuromodulator without protein additives.
  • Your body doesn’t develop a resistance to Xeomin.
  • Doesn’t leave obvious signs of cosmetic work, such as scars or incision marks.

Preparation

  • Stop taking certain nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications and blood-thinning medications.
  • Stop smoking a few days before the treatment.
  • Ensure your face is clean during the treatment — no makeup, cosmetic products, etc.

Recovery Guidelines

  • Avoid strenuous physical activities for a day.
  • Avoid smoking and drinking for a day.
  • Don’t rub or massage your forehead.
  • Keep your head elevated for a few hours.

Xeomin vs. Botox

The primary difference between Xeomin and Botox is that the former is a “naked botulinum toxin.” Botox contains numerous supplementary proteins that can eventually trigger the formation of antibodies, reducing the effectiveness of Botox over time. However, you’re far less likely to develop a resistance to Xeomin. That’s why patients often switch over to Xeomin once the Botox injections stop working.

Xeomin Can Treat

Moderate to Severe Glabellar Lines: Xeomin is FDA-approved to suppress moderate to severe glabellar lines, i.e., the vertical lines between the eyebrows caused by frowning.

Downtime

Xeomin doesn’t include any downtime or extended recovery period. Since there’s no general or local anesthesia, you can even resume driving. You might experience redness, swelling, itching, and bruising around the injection sites for a few days, but you can resume all your daily activities and work immediately.
