Microneedling Description

Microneedling is one of the most effective skin rejuvenation techniques available. This is a procedure wherein microneedles are used to puncture the uppermost layers of the skin, thereby activating the skin’s natural collagen production capabilities, which is essential to skin rejuvenation. RevIVe MedSpa & Wellness uses the latest technologies and techniques to provide the benefits of microneedling without needlessly damaging the surrounding skin.

SkinPen

SkinPen by Crown Aesthetics is an FDA-approved microneedling device to treat acne scars for individuals over 21 years of age. The SkinPen device consists of numerous microneedles that make thousands of microchannels on the skin’s surface. Consequently, your body activates skin cell regeneration and collagen production to heal the wound. The damaged skin tissues are eventually replaced by new, fresh, and even-textured skin tissues. And your body produces new collagen fibers to strengthen the skin cells, reducing the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles.

Procedure

Your microneedling treatment starts with a personal consultation with our estheticians and nurse practitioners. We examine your facial tissues and discuss your concerns to adjust the SkinPen device. Your skin is cleansed and numbed with topical anesthesia to ensure optimal comfort. After adjusting the SkinPen device according to your specific skin depth and concerns, it’s gradually moved over the treatment areas to produce the necessary microchannels on the epidermis. The entire procedure concludes once all the treatment areas are covered, which should take less than 30 minutes.

Preparation

  • You might have to stop taking certain medications, especially nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications, like ibuprofen.
  • Stop using topical retinoids and other acne treatments before the procedure.
  • Inform the doctor if you have any active health conditions, infections, or skin concerns.

Post-Procedure/ Downtime

Microneedling with SkinPen doesn’t involve any downtime, and most patients can resume their daily activities immediately. However, you should avoid strenuous workouts and direct exposure to the sunlight. You should also expect minor skin irritation, pinpoint bleeding, and peeling for a few days.

Results

Your skin will feel a little tight after the procedure, but that’s mostly because of the swelling. The results will appear over several days, gradually improving with the follow-up sessions. Over time, your skin will appear smoother, brighter, and more even-textured. The acne scars will fade away, and the over signs of aging, such as the wrinkles and fine lines, will start receding.

Treatment Frequency

Most patients need 3 microneedling sessions with SkinPen, spaced 30 days apart. However, your treatment frequency depends on your specific skin concerns and goals.

RF Microneedling

RF microneedling is a modified version of microneedling that also includes the benefits of radiofrequency therapy. When the microneedles penetrate the skin’s surface, they also deliver radiofrequency energy into the deeper dermal layers. The radiofrequency energy leads to skin contracture, tightening the skin tissues, and it encourages collagen production. As such, RF microneedling provides the benefits of microneedling and radiofrequency therapy. Consequently, RF microneedling boosts the results you’d expect from SkinPen microneedling, making your skin look smoother and younger.

Procedure

Your RF microneedling session starts with a comprehensive consultation with the nurse practitioners. They examine your skin tissues, discuss your goals, and calibrate the RF microneedling device according to your specific skin depth and concerns. The RF microneedling device is moved over the treatment areas, simultaneously creating microchannels and delivering radiofrequency energy deep inside. This activates your body’s natural healing processes, encouraging skin cell turnover and collagen production. The procedure concludes within 30 minutes.

Preparation

  • Stop using topical retinoids and other acne treatments before the procedure.
  • Stop taking Accutane a few months before the treatment.
  • Avoid skin resurfacing treatments for a week before the treatment.
  • Inform the doctor if you develop any rashes or skin infections.

Post-Procedure/ Downtime

You’ll experience redness, skin dryness, and shedding for a few days after the procedure, but there’s no downtime. You can resume your daily activities and work immediately, as long as you follow the providers’ recovery guidelines, such as avoiding strenuous activities for a few days.

Results

The results gradually appear within a week as the older skin cells flake off to reveal the smoother skin underneath. You may need additional sessions and maintenance treatments to keep the results. Over time, you’ll notice that your skin looks smoother, brighter, more even-textured, and younger.

Treatment Frequency

Most patients need 3 to 5 RF microneedling sessions spaced a month apart for optimal results. It’s also advisable to repeat the treatment once a year. However, the nurse practitioners will curate the ideal treatment frequency for your specific needs.
