What is Dysport?

Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a cosmetic injectable that temporarily suppresses moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, also known as glabellar lines, in patients less than 65 years of age. Dysport is a neuromodulator, i.e., a type of cosmetic injectable that temporarily reduces the appearance of dynamic wrinkles caused by the overuse of facial muscles. Frown lines, for example, appear when you overuse the glabellar muscles while frowning.

Dysport, like other neuromodulators, is made of the active ingredient botulinum toxin type A, a neurotoxin protein that blocks the release of neurotransmitters that engage with the targeted muscles. As such, Dysport temporarily paralyzes the facial muscles responsible for the frown lines, thereby reducing their visibility. Dysport results usually last for 3 to 4 months, i.e., the time required for your body to metabolize the neurotoxin protein.

Benefits

  • Non-surgically reduces the visibility of moderate to severe frown lines.
  • Leaves no incision marks, scars, or other signs of cosmetic work.
  • The dosage can be adjusted according to your specific goals.
  • Regular and early use can prevent the appearance of frown lines.
  • Suitable for most patients under 65 years of age.
  • Concludes within 15 minutes with no downtime.

Preparation

  • Temporarily discontinue certain medications and supplements, such as muscle relaxers, sleep aids, allergy medications, herbal supplements, and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications.
  • Stop smoking a few days before the treatment to minimize the post-treatment bruising.
  • Remove makeup, skincare products, and debris from your skin before the treatment.

Dysport Can Treat

Moderate to Severe Frown Lines: Dysport has FDA approval to treat the vertical lines between the eyebrows. These lines usually appear when you frown or knit your eyebrows together.

Procedure

Dysport is a simple treatment that concludes within 15 minutes with no downtime. However, your first session might last longer because our nurse practitioners will take time to understand your specific goals and concerns. Our exceptional nurse practitioners examine your facial skin, discuss your goals, and review your health history to calibrate the ideal Dysport dosage for you. They’ll also create a treatment map on your face to highlight the injection spots.

Before the treatment, your facial skin will be cleansed and numbed with a topical anesthetic for optimal comfort. The aesthetician will deliver the calibrated Dysport doses into the targeted injection spots using ultrafine needles. The number of injections depends on your specific needs and goals. You might feel a slight pinch as the needle goes into the skin, but most patients say the treatment is comfortable.

Recovery Guidelines

  • Exercise your facial muscles by knitting your eyebrows together and being expressive.
  • Avoid strenuous physical activities for 24 hours.
  • Don’t touch the treatment areas on your face or apply pressure for a day.
  • Don’t wear makeup or apply cosmetic products for at least 24 hours.
  • Keep your head elevated for at least 4 hours.
  • Discontinue blood-thinning medications temporarily, according to the provider’s recommendations.

Downtime & Results

Dysport is a safe treatment that concludes within 15 minutes with no downtime. You might experience mild swelling, redness, and bruising around the injection spots for a few days, but you can resume your daily activities immediately. The lack of local anesthesia and sedatives allows you to get back to work without delays.

You’ll start seeing the Dysport results in a few days, and the final results appear in a week or two. The overall results last for 3 to 4 months, depending on how fast your body metabolizes the Dysport ingredients. Most patients need 3 to 4 Dysport injections per year to maintain the results.
