What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is a cosmetic injectable that stimulates collagen production to restore lost facial volume. It’s mostly used to plump-up wrinkles and gaunt areas of the face, such as hollow cheeks, moderate to severe facial wrinkles, and the nasolabial folds (lines running from the sides of the nose to the mouth). However, it can also be used to restore volume in the back of the hands.

How does it work?

Radiesse is a collagen stimulator with the active ingredient of calcium hydroxyapatite (CaHA). This is a naturally-occurring component that gives your skin a lift, filling out the fine lines and wrinkles while encouraging your body to produce collagen fibers. The gradual loss of collagen is the primary reason for the loss of facial volume and wrinkles. By restoring your skin’s collagen reserves, Radiesse naturally reverses the effects of age on your skin.

Radiesse injections also contain lidocaine, an anesthetic component that numbs the skin upon contact. This ensures that the treatment is painless and comfortable.

Cosmetic Goals

  • Fill out moderate to severe fine lines and wrinkles on the face, such as the nasolabial folds.
  • Reduce the visibility of deep acne scars.

More about Radiesse treatments

Procedure

The Radiesse treatment concludes within 15 minutes, but your first session might last longer. Our nurse practitioners will examine your facial skin and discuss your goals to curate the ideal treatment plan. After selecting the ideal dosage, they deliver Radiesse into strategically-chosen treatment areas with ultrafine needles. In some cases, they might use a numbing gel before the injection, but it’s not necessary.

Downtime

Radiesse doesn’t involve any downtime. You might experience mild swelling, itching, redness, bruising, and discomfort, but you can resume all your daily activities immediately. You can drive yourself back home because the treatment doesn’t include local anesthesia or sedatives. The side effects will gradually dissipate in a few days.

Recovery Guidelines

  • Avoid strenuous physical activities for 24 hours.
  • Avoid direct sunlight for 24 hours because your skin might be sensitive.

Results

Radiesse results appear instantly, but you’ll appreciate the full results in a week. However, Radiesse also encourages your body to produce new collagen fibers, so you’ll continue seeing gradual improvements over several weeks or months. The final results last for up to 2 years with optimal treatment.
