Dysport (abobotulinumtoxinA) is a cosmetic injectable that temporarily suppresses moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows, also known as glabellar lines, in patients less than 65 years of age. Dysport is a neuromodulator, i.e., a type of cosmetic injectable that temporarily reduces the appearance of dynamic wrinkles caused by the overuse of facial muscles. Frown lines, for example, appear when you overuse the glabellar muscles while frowning.
Dysport, like other neuromodulators, is made of the active ingredient botulinum toxin type A, a neurotoxin protein that blocks the release of neurotransmitters that engage with the targeted muscles. As such, Dysport temporarily paralyzes the facial muscles responsible for the frown lines, thereby reducing their visibility. Dysport results usually last for 3 to 4 months, i.e., the time required for your body to metabolize the neurotoxin protein.
